This calculator has been produced to encourage everyone to reduce the environmental impact of their travel. It aims to show how using transport with a relatively low environmental impact can help you to reduce air pollution, improve your health and in some cases save money. There are three calculators - to calculate your pollutant emissions from your journeys, calculate the energy you use on your journeys (in calories), and calculate the full annual cost of car ownership.

Road transport is responsible for a large proportion of UK air pollution. Whether you commute to work, college or school, travel for business, leisure or to carry out household chores, find out how you can make your journeys cleaner. If you leave the car at home sometimes and walk, cycle or use public transport you could get fitter and save money. Of course, for some journeys the car is the only practicable option - but by maintaining your vehicle and careful driving you can still reduce fuel consumption and pollution and save money.
